Abstract
This study aims to examine scientific diplomacy as the axis of the future soft power of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The central research question is: How can scientific diplomacy become the main axis of Iran’s soft power at the regional level, and what scenarios can be outlined for its future? The hypothesis assumes that by combining Iran’s scientific and technological capacities with cultural and regional mechanisms, scientific diplomacy can enhance the country’s position in the architecture of soft power. The research employs a qualitative and futures-oriented methodology, using trend analysis and James Dator’s scenario planning model to outline alternative futures. Findings indicate four possible scenarios: continuous growth, collapse, re-creation, and fundamental transformation. The preferred scenario is a combination of continuous growth and re-creation, reinforced by strategic investment in emerging technologies. This scenario is expected to increase regional legitimacy, create positive scientific dependencies, and consolidate Iran’s role in the architecture of regional soft power.
